James S. Heiner, MD is the founder of Reproductive Care Center, the first private practice fertility clinic in Utah. He is board certified in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and obstetrics/gynecology.

He earned his medical degree in 1985 and completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. He then completed a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UTMB. During this time he served as chief administrative resident and was honored with the “Good as Gold” award for superior patient care.

He then completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UCLA and Cedars- Sinai Medical Centers in Los Angeles in 1991.

Keith L. Blauer, MD, Board Certified, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Infertility Specialist

Keith Blauer Infertility Specialist UtahKeith L. Blauer, MD graduated from BYU in chemistry and completed his doctor of medicine degree at the University of Washington. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Keesler USAF Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi.

His fellowship in reproductive endocrinology was completed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Institute of Health. He is a board certified reproductive endocrinology and obstetrics and gynecology. While he was the infertility program director at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, he established the first affiliated IVF and gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) program in the Department of Defense.

He was the associate director of the OB/GYN training program for the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. He was on the faculty of four medical schools and has been actively involved in research as well as the clinical and surgical care of infertility patients. Dr. Blauer is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist, infertility specialist and is also board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Harry S. Hatasaka, MD, Board Certified, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Infertility Specialist

Harry Hatasaka, MD has an excellent reputation as a board certified infertility specialist, reproductive endocrinologist and former Medical Director of the IVF program at the University of Utah from 1994 until 2009.

Dr. Hatasaka completed his residency at Case Western Reserve University in obstetrics and gynecology where he began assisting in the performance of in vitro fertilization procedures by 1984. He stayed to join the faculty at Case Western Reserve as a general obstetrician gynecologist and was fortunate to begin three total years of subspecialty fellowship training a year later with Dr. Leon Speroff, one of the icons of reproductive medicine.

The final two years of Dr. Hatasaka’s fellowship training were completed at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Brad B. Swelstad, MD, Board Certified, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Infertility Specialist

Brad Swelstad Utah Fertility SpecialistBrad B. Swelstad, MD graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1997 with Honors with a B.S. degree in Zoology. After finishing his doctorate of medicine from Saint George’s University, he completed his internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU in New Orleans and his residency at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He completed his fellowship training in reproductive medicine at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University. Currently, Dr. Swelstad is also an adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins. He sees patients in our Clearfield/Layton office.

John Gililland, MD, Board Certified, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Infertility Specialist

Infertility Specialist John GillilandDr. John Gililland is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist (REI) with 26 years of experience in the field, and the newest member of the Reproductive Care Center (RCC) medical team. 

Dr. Gililland received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Arizona and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Arizona Health Sciences center. 

After practicing OB/GYN in the US Army in Frankfurt, Germany, Dr. Gililland completed a fellowship in REI in Washington, D.C.  During that time, he was awarded for his ground breaking research and was recognized for his excellence in patient care.  After completion of his military service, Dr. Gililland elected to work in private practice in northern California, providing care for couples with a wide variety of reproductive difficulties via services including IVF, IUI, and surgery.  His IVF success rates were among the highest in the region. 

In 2010 Dr. Gililland and his wife left the US to be missionaries in Africa.  After a year of language training in France, they moved to Mali, West Africa where they began their missionary service at Hôpital Femmes et Enfants.  Dr. Gililland cared for many patients there with all sorts of illnesses as well as a large number of couples with infertility. 

At the end of 2014, Dr. Gililland elected return to the US to join the team at RCC and to open a new satellite clinic in Pleasant Grove.
