Fertility Test Genetic Testing
Exciting developments in genetic testing are revolutionizing fertility treatment. Testing to determine whether potential parents are carriers of particular genetic mutations is now widely available and affordable. If both potential parents are found to be carriers of an identical mutation, they will have roughly a 25% chance of having a child that is affected with that disease or syndrome.
These patients can now take advantage of embryo testing available in conjunction with an IVF cycle. This testing allows us to identify embryos that do not carry the mutation for transfer, in hopes of creating a pregnancy that produces a healthy, unaffected baby.
The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Medical Genetics, and Reproductive Care Center, all recommend genetic screening for disease-causing mutations such as Cystic Fibrosis and Spinal Muscular atrophy. Reproductive Care Center offers genetic testing to all patients including Progenity, Next Gen, Natera, Counsyl, and Invitae among others and recommends genetic testing for anyone considering conception.
This cutting edge testing and treatment is helping our patients avoid having a child affected with serious or life threatening diseases like Cystic fibrosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Sickle Cell disease and many others.
